Prepare yourself, because your life is about to change.

I'm getting out of paleontology.

Almost everyone who knows me at all knows that I've wanted to go into paleontology since before I was old enough to pronounce the word. Well, things have changed, for a couple of reasons.

First of all, there's too much science. Chemistry, math, that kind of stuff. I don't like that.

Second, there's lots of papers to write. If I were to get a position at a museum or university, it's highly likely that I'd be expected to write at least one research paper per year, and I HATE papers. I don't want to be doing something I don't like.

Thirdly, I think I've been holding on to an unrealistic idea of what I'd do as a paleontologist. When I think about it, I was mostly interested in the field work; but of course, only a couple of months per year are dedicated to field work.

Finally, I think the most important reason is because I'm not really interested in my classes. I have a hard time paying attention in class, and can't bring myself to study for exams, and it's a challenge to work on assignments.

So I'm thinking I'll switch to an art program. I've been drawing comics for over three years now, so I think it's pretty obvious that I have some kind of an interest in art. Right now I'm looking at York University in Toronto, I hear they've got a great art program there.

So I apologize for shattering your reality if I have done so. I'm still feeling weird about it.

That's all for now.

Yes, that's right! We're finally updating again!

Wheeeeeeee!!!

Yarr, avast!

Been busy the last couple of months. School, work, holidaying, partying, gaming, drawing. So let's get down to business.

School:
First semester = done. Wheeee. Did okay, but it wasn't a whole lot of fun. This semester is much better: only three classes, and three labs; and two of the labs are completely self contained with no work outside the lab. Classes are... well, they're classes. But I'm actually enjoying two of the three labs. The Animal Form and Function lab involves checking out dead stuff- pretty much every kind of animal, from insects to birds to fish to mammals. This morning we raced bugs to determine the relationship between mass and speed. And let me tell you, cockroaches are FAST!!! And my paleontology lab mostly consists of closely examining fossils... and then drawing them. And if you know me personally or through the comic, you should know that I don't hate drawing. (to understate...)

Work:
Second busiest Dollarama in the world, at the busiest time of the year. Intense, nerve wracking, but mostly surprisingly slow, boring and easy. No real horror stories-- in other words, not much worth talking about.

Holidaying, partying, gaming:
I, um, kind of disappeared from the Dollarama for two weeks 'cause they didn't want to give me any time off over the Christmas holidays. But it was worth it: got to see all my old friends and party with them. Also played a ton of Guild Wars and Team Fortress 2. (Steam account is szthesquid)

Drawing:
Here's the part that all you comic readers must be concerned about. I've been drawing stuff, ie comics. However, Mike has not been putting them up. (Mike, if you're reading this, it's a hint.) I've also been drawing some random other stuff. I've got four new pieces up on my deviantArt account. (see link on left) Random pics of the Squid and Cap; a hypothetical future where the Local Heroes go through a major event/accident and become... well, more awesomer (except Gauntlet is dead); and a REALLY AWESOME pic of the Doorman fighting that silvery Runaairii guy (who, in case you didn't know, is called Qu'naet).

That's all I've got for now. Hopefully, I won't wait another 13 weeks to post my next entry. =p

So I been buggin' Mike for more scripts, but nothing yet.

Fright Nights has begun in Brockville. That means I get to run around with a chainsaw and terrify small children.

The way I'm set up this year? Well, I have a greenhouse. The greenhouse is set up to look like the end-of-scary-walk party, so the tourmaster leads them in and closes the doors. There's orange and purple lights, lots of decorations, some gameshow-type music, and a pair of floodlights. Now, since it's dark, the group can't see past the floodlights, so I can stand behind them without being seen. Then I walk out holding the chainsaw in one hand, to get a spooky silhouette.

That's when all the lights go out, and the chainsaw starts.

Needless to say, the people freak. They're trapped in a closed, pitch-black greenhouse with a chainsaw maniac they can't even see. Kids pound and claw at the door crying, and even the adults get nervous. Eventually they're let out.

Unfortunately, I have somehow broken two-- yes, that's right, TWO-- chainsaws, in two nights. The first night, the pull cord on the chainsaw locked, and I couldn't turn it on. The second night, after everything was over, the side panel and the blade just collapsed off the replacement chainsaw, for no apparent reason. In both cases, it clearly wasn't my fault, but still. It's weird.

Saw Stranger Than Fiction, it was awesome. Saw Eurotrip, the robot fight is one of the best things EVER. Saw Shaun of the Dead for the umpteen millionth time, and it was hilarious as always.

Haven't got a job jet. I'm mad. Blargh.

Anyways, that's all the news for now.

Why am I quoting Sockbaby? Because it's awesome.

Anyway, homework sucks. I've got a lot more than last year. Weekly to biweekly assignments in four classes, and a paper for another. It's really getting in the way of comic work, but I'm trying not to let that stop me.

I saw Resident Evil 3. I recommend it if you like zombie movies and you've seen Resident Evil 1 and 2. Otherwise, don't bother. Although the crow scene is really cool. Crows corrupted, but not infected, by the zombie virus attack in a huge flock. It's cool and creepy and very well done.

Also saw the trailer for The Mist, a movie based on a Stephen King book. It is AWESOME. Here's a link to watch teh trailer.

I was thinking about those people who do daily blogs, and I have no idea where they get their material. If they just write about how their day went, I don't see how people would be all that interested unless they have a hilarious or dramatic life. The only way I can see myself ever doing a daily blog (which I won't) is if I had some kind of topic related to news stories, and wrote about those.

But I won't, so no problems here.

Anyways, I'm gonna make like a Tom and cruise.

I.

Comic.

Wheeeeee!

Check out my deviantART account; I've got a new art up.

Wow. It's been some time since I've posted up here.

My main excuse is that I've been in Brockville with my craptacular Internet. Which sucked, big time.

But I've also been quite busy, what with the field course and all, and that's my excuse for not having comics up. But fear not! Now that I'm back in school and really should be studying, comics will reappear shortly. (figure that one out...)

So yeah, field course. It were a geology field course. Involving mapping rock units and stuff like that, which I'm sure you're not interested in. I wasn't all that interested either, since there were hardly any fossils to be seen. The fun bits were all the hanging out times, after the work was done. There was much card playing and quoting of movies, and a couple days in we split a game of Risk and played that every night. So, all in all, a pretty good experience. And on top of all that, I came out with a decent mark too!

Back to the real world... School is a bit of a headache this year. The cap on tuition fees is gone, so now they want $5200 instead of $4600. Urgh. Double urgh, when you consider that I only made a couple thousand during the summer. Textbooks are a pain too; a couple of my profs expect us to get our hands on twelve year old texts that aren't in the bookstore. And I can't return half my old textbooks for cash money, 'cause new editions came in. Blech.

My classes will be good though, and as soon as my parents decide to actually give me the laptop they bought me, it'll be a party.

Oh yeah, I've got some pics I'll put up on my deviantART account soon. The Local Heroes, plus Cap Fab as a zombie.

Peace, and long life.

Hey hey, I be back.  (for those of you who care)

Now it's time for one of my funny stories from work!
So this black guy walks into the gas station. He looks around for a bit, then turns to me and asks, "Are there a lot of black people around here?"

So I told him, "Nope."

He goes, "Never mind. You're Catholic, right?" I replied no, but he ignored that and continued. "You go to church every Sunday, right?"

But my answers didn't seem to matter to him, and he continued. "You know God is actually the sun?" (it could've been "son" but I'm pretty sure it was "sun"... anyway.) "Black people are black because of the sun, so black people are closer to God. White people are further from God, you know." He contemplated this for a second and added, "White people are snow people. That's why you're all screwed by this global warming thing." Then he left.

I was more than a little confused by this, to say the least. I've never been given any race speeches by anyone else in the three months I've been working at the station. And besides, I'm not even sure what the point of this one was...

Anyway, that's my thing for today. I may or may not post again soon; I've got this thing to do with certain people involving stuff.

TRANSFORMERS IS AMAZING!!!

Seriously. I thought this movie would be okay, with a lot of cheesyness, and maybe just a little lame. But it's NOT. It's one of the most spectacularly awesome movies I've ever seen. I don't want to say too much, but you absolutely HAVE to go see this movie. There's so much random comedy and double meanings and, of course, giant robot fights! It's... it's... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus, it has good trailers. Remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and what looks to be a new Godzilla!

Also, I just got a new barbecue (a shiny one!) and the pool guys are setting me up with a 27 foot aboveground. So my backyard is now a party.

Wheeee!

Live Free or Die Hard.

Awesometacular.

Seriously, it's probably the best movie this year. It's incredible. Lots of explosions and violence and all that fun stuff. Plus, Bruce Willis. Can't get much better than that.

Also, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII for the Wii is a great game. The flight controls are great-- the Nunchuk attachment works like a joystick, so by tilting it, you control the pitch and roll of your plane. It's a party. I recommend it if anyone's in the market for a new Wii game.

Also also, the comic. Getting awesome. This is the stuff we've been building to for two and a half years. Just wait.

We're back in action. w00t.

Because my Internet is being stupid, I can't tell if Mike has spoken about this yet, but after a bit of Force comics, we plan on doing two story comics per week, plus a Force comic on Thursdays! Yes, that's right-- THREE comics per week!

I don't know if anyone remembers this, but last summer, we did maybe three comics, so our huge five month buffer just got eaten, and then we had trouble updating around November/December. Well, this summer, we're on a roll. In the last two weeks, Mike's written seven scripts. I've drawn those scripts into comics, plus about seven or eight Force comics, plus the Silver Surfer comic that I love so much. So we're set with comics for a good while now, and we'll only keep making more! Bwahahaha!

Also, I'm bored. It is teh suxx0rz.

So I’ve got this job at a gas station right near my house. Occasionally, funny things happen. Welcome to another (well, okay, the first) episode of DOM’S FUNNY STORIES FROM WORK!!!

You know those cases of bottled drinks? They come in 24 packs and are sealed in with plastic? This one time, I was opening a case of Mountain Dew with my handy knife. This knife is extremely sharp, by the way. I mean really really sharp. Anyway, I stabbed it into the plastic and pulled it along to cut through the stuff. I did it again from another angle, only this time, I punched straight into a bottle of the Dew. Now, I didn’t push very hard, but since this knife is so sharp, I popped the bottle. So the thing starts spewing Mountain Dew all over the place: on me, the floor, the drink coolers, the other bottles… That was fun.

Another time, there was just one guy in the store, and he was looking at a Playboy magazine. Someone walked into the store behind him, and the door did that loud beepy thing it does when it gets opened. So the guy whips his head around, sees the woman who just walked in, his eyes widen considerably, he snaps the magazine closed, turns around, opens a drawer behind the counter, shoves the magazine in, and walks casually out of the store.

And just today, I went in to work, and my fellow employee kindly informed me that I’m not working today. Which is good, I guess. Right? But then I had to bike home. Maybe I’ll look more closely at the schedule from now on.

And that concludes another episode of DOM’S FUNNY STORIES FROM WORK!!!

So I got this sweet Nerf gun, the Maverick. It's teh r0xx0rz. Fast rate of fire, highly accurate, looks like a revolver, easily modable so the barrel swings all the way out and you can play Russian roulette. So I decided, after Mike showed me a paint job on a Maverick on teh Internetz, to paint mine as well.

I decided I'd give it a silver base coat, put black over top and scratch the black off to reveal the silver, as if it was made of metal, painted black, and scratched up a bit. I was running pretty low on silver paint and barely got the base coat done. Then I got to the black paint, of which I also had almost none (for reasons that may or may not become clear in the near future). I had a full can of black spray paint, but it didn't have the little button thing that you push to make paint come out. So I snatched one off the silver can and attempted to mount it onto the black can.

Bad idea.

As soon as I pushed down, a literal flood of black paint erupted onto my hands. Before I had a chance to react to my hands being soaked and smelly, the spray angled itself upward, straight into my face... and EYEBALLS. Argh, to say the least.

So my hands were completely black and my face was about half covered in large black spots, mostly concentrated around my eyes/forehead regions. Fortunately, I was outside at the time, and also fortunately, I managed to scrape the oil-based paint off me with some steel wool. Which hurt almost as much as getting it in my eyes in the first place.

But the gun turned out pretty nice...

I'm stuck.

I decided I'd start writing a sci fi story, and it it turns out good maybe send it to a publishing company or something. Anyway, that's not the point. The point is, I have the beginning and the end, but no middle, and I'm having trouble thinking of something. I want this story to be fairly long, like a novel basically. But that's not gonna happen if I don't come up with something to put between the start and the end.

Sigh.

Y'know, when you have dial-up internet (aka superslow craptacular internet) it's really tough to remember to check all my stuff, let alone update it.

So, here I am, updating my LJ after, what, a month and a half?

In case you care, my exams went pretty good. I passed calculus, which pleases me. Since then, I've mostly been playing video games and working. And I saw Spider-Man 3. Don't let anyone tell you that's not a good movie.

Anywho, in regards to the comic. It's kinda weird actually. Mike and I didn't miss a lot of comics the whole time we were at school and, uh... studying... But now that we're home and have nothing better to do, how many comics do we produce? None. Well I don't know if Mike's talked about this yet ('cause checking up on his LJ is just another page to load on my craptacular internetz) but we're starting back up again at the start of June. Guaranteed. I've already done three Force comics in the last three days. We'll also have some story comics ready to go. (I think)

So we apologize for the wait, and can't really give any good explanation for it, but it will soon be over! w00t!

Yes, that's right folks. I'm back. Random comments time!

If you're wondering why no comic went up on Saturday, I unfortunately can't tell you anything about that. I sent a comic to Mike, and since Mike reliably uploads comics I can only assume that there's something wrong with ComicGenesis.

(again)

(sigh)

Anywho, summer vacation is almost here, at least for us university students. I'm sure that many people are jealous of the university student's glorious four months off. Well, don't be, 'cause most of us have to work. I got me a job at a gas station right near my house, so the fact that I don't drive won't be complicating my life, at least for now. And jobs mean money, which means buying tons of cool stuff paying for tuition and bus passes. (sigh)

So my uncle just got me this sandwich. It's from Quiznos, and it's awesome. There's chicken and bacon and some kind of sauce in a toasted bun, and this makes a good sandwich. The sticker on the wrapper says "Chicken Carbonara", and I am recommending this sandwich to you all on the grounds that it tastes good.

I've been playing some Star Wars games recently. The final boss of Jedi Knight II is the most horriblest final boss ever. On a more pleasant note, Star Wars: Empire At War is the best real-time strategy game I've ever played (although it's not my favourite kind of game, so don't rely on my review too much). Right now I'm frustrated by the fact that I can't build Mon Calamari Star Cruisers or level 5 space stations. Guess I have to get farther in the story.

Also, since I was bored, I took some of those crazy Internet tests that are sometimes surprisingly accurate. Here's what I got:
-My theme song: Back in Black, AC/DC (questionable...)
-Star Wars character: R2-D2 (uh... maybe...)
-Willpower: I'm temptation-proof

And then I got bored of those silly tests.

So that's all for this episode of weirdness. Gotta study for me bio exam. See y'alls later.

On behalf of Mike and myself, I'd like to apologize for the lack of update.

You see, Mike keeps the scripts on his laptop, from which he sends them to me to draw. And Mike's laptop is now refusing to turn on when he tells it to. In other words, it is teh br0xx0rz. So basically, Mike can't send me scripts, and therefore, I can't draw comics.

To make you feel better, I've put up some new stuff on my Deviantart account. (you can access it by clicking the link on the left) Well, okay, two new things and some custom Heroclix, which most of you don't care about anyways. Really, though, check it out. There's a picture of Max that you'll like, and any future Film Noir comics will be done in that style. So it's kinda like a sneak preview. The other new thing is a kinda sketch/kinda finished piece of a new, mystery superhero who you may or may not ever see in the actual comic. And of course, if you haven't seen the SuperZero backgrounds yet, you may want to check those out too; and if you like one of them, go ahead and save it to your computer for use as a desktop image.

So again, we're sorry. But check out my Deviantart, and maybe you won't feel so disappointed.

Okay, first off, I'm gonna make something clear. I'm all for equal treatment and women's rights. It's not fair when women get paid less than men for the same jobs or amount of work.

In the paper this morning I saw an article about a demonstration that was trying to talk to Ontario's premier about stopping violence against women. This is the part that I have a problem with. Violence against women is not right, just like violence against anyone else isn't right. However, I personally think it's a bit of a wasted effort.

The reason I say this is not because I'm sexist, it's because I have a brain that works things out logically.

Stopping violence against women sounds great, but when you think about it, it's impossible. As long as there is violence in any form at all, there WILL be violence against women, as well as men. Basically what I'm saying is, it's not possible to stop violence against women without also stopping violence against men and children. Helping people understand that men and women are equals would certainly cut down on violence against women, but as long as violence and women both exist in the world, there will be violence against women.

Even assuming that all violence against women is stopped, completely and absolutely, then all violence would be against men and children. And as far as I know, there's never been a "stop violence against men" campaign.

I suppose that in the end, my point is that we should try to cut down on ALL violence, and not just violence against women, because we're all equal, and we all deserve the right to a violence-free life.
